The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) wishes to thank Mayor Al Spacek for his many years of Leadership and Dedication as President of FONOM. Mayor Spacek announced at the FONOM Conference this spring that he would not be seeking re-election in October. An election of Officers was held at the August Board meeting in Ottawa. The new officers are; President Danny Whalen (Councillor from the City of Temiskaming Shores), 1St Vice President Mac Bain (Councillor from the City of North Bay), 2nd Vice President Paul Schoppmann (Mayor from the Municipality of St.

Doug Ford, chef du Parti conservateur, et Mme Andrea Horwath, chef du Parti néo-démocrate, participeront à un débat le vendredi 11 mai, à 11 h 30, au Centre Charles-W.-Stockey, de Parry Sound. Ce débat viendra clore la conférence annuelle de la FMNO, laquelle débute le mercredi 9 mai à 12 h 45.
À la Fédération des municipalités du Nord de l’Ontario (FMNO), on a étudié le budget 2018 de l’Ontario, déposé en chambre le 28 mars 2018 par M. Charles Sousa, ministre des Finances de la province. « Alors que ce budget dresse la liste d’investissements importants grandement nécessaires, nous nous préoccupons du fait que le gouvernement sera déficitaire jusqu’en 2024-2025, surtout dans une période où l’économie se porte bien » a déclaré M. Alan Spacek, maire de Kapuskasing et président de la FMNO.
The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) has reviewed the 2018 Ontario Budget which was released by the Minister of Finance, Honourable Charles Sousa, in the Ontario Legislature on March 28, 2018. “While the Budget listed significant investments to be made that are greatly needed, we are concerned about the government running deficits until 2024-2025, particularly at a time when the economy is doing well,” says Mayor Al Spacek of the Town of Kapuskasing and President of FONOM.
February 7, 2018-The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) and the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) are pleased to learn that the government will soon be announcing calls for proposals for new bed developments in long-term care.
January 18, 2018 – Kirkland Lake – The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) sent requests on November 29, 2017 to the three main political parties in the province, seeking their vision for Northern Ontario. The sole party to respond to date is the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.
December 6, 2017 – Kirkland Lake, ON- The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) commends the provincial government’s announcement to improve transportation services within and between communities across the North. The announcement to enhance bus services and implement the Community Transportation Grant Program was made on December 1, 2017 by the Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Michael Gravelle and the Minister of Transportation, Steven Del Duca alongside the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Bill Mauro.
November 21, 2017 – Kirkland Lake, ON- The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) is pleased with the provincial government’s announcement on November 20, 2017 to increase the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) by $5 million for 2018 to a total of $510 million in funding for 389 municipalities across the province.
A coalition of municipal and Indigenous leaders, chambers of commerce, unions, and forest professionals are coming to Queen’s Park on Wednesday, November 22nd to dispel misinformation about Ontario’s forest sector and to urge the Government to avoid unintended consequences from rushed species at risk (SAR) policy.
