Mr. David Plourde was elected as Mayor of the Town of Kapuskasing on October 22, 2018.

David has a long involvement in serving municipal government. Prior to being elected as Mayor of Kapuskasing, he served as a Municipal Councillor for the Town of Kapuskasing since 1994. During his 28 years as a member of Kapuskasing Council, David served on numerous boards and committees.

Over the years, David devoted many hours to revive the Kapuskasing AAA Midget hockey team to a higher competitive level through his passion for hockey. He continues to support the sport as he finds value and pride in those who work continuously to provide opportunities for our youth and in the development of skills and team environments.

As a lifelong entrepreneur, he understands what it takes to make a business successful and he is determined to ensure that Kapuskasing becomes a better place to live, work, raise a family and retire. He leads a Council team whose priorities include economic development, financial sustainability, youth retention and increasing public engagement. David is committed in fulfilling the Town of Kapuskasing’s vision of being a diversified, progressive, sustainable, safe and healthy community.

David currently sits as the NeOMA representative for FONOM, member of the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board, Northern Ontario Highway Task Force and the Northern Ontario Wires Board. He is Chairperson of the Kapuskasing Economic Development Corporation, the Kapuskasing Energy Board, the Police Services Board and the Evacuation and Emergency Management Committee. He sits as ex-officio member on various municipal committees and serves on the Kapuskasing and District Professional Health Care Recruitment and Retention Committee.

An active supporter or many community organizations and initiatives, his volunteer work has included serving as President for the Kapuskasing Chamber of Commerce, the Kapuskasing Midget AAA Flyers and Commissioner of the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Northern Corridor Children’s Foundation. He is also a Member of the Knights of Columbus, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 85 and the Northern Corridor Chamber of Commerce. Mayor David Plourde is a lifelong resident of the Town of Kapuskasing, the Model Town of the North with his wife, Christine and two children. He is a devoted member of our community who values family, friends, and his colleagues, along with being an avid outdoorsman. Mayor Plourde is the owner of Plourde E & Son Upholstering, located in downtown Kapuskasing.
