The Township of Carling is located on the eastern shore of the Georgian Bay directly northwest of Parry Sound. The Township was given the name Carling after the Honorable John Carling, president of the Carling Brewing and Malting Company and M.P.P. for London. In 1897 Carling was formally created as the Corporation of the Township of Carling.

With roughly 1,125 permanent residents, Carling is a popular tourist and cottage destination. The Township of Carling is home to five lighthouses and has been the location of many television series such as the Rez and Northern Rescue. Popular local activities include: fishing, hunting/trapping, boating, camping and snowmobiling. Carling is home to Killbear Provincial Park and many local cottage resorts. The Township of Carling is located within the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve where biodiversity and sustainable development are supported.
