Observations de la FMNO sur le budget 2018 de l’Ontario
À la Fédération des municipalités du Nord de l’Ontario (FMNO), on a étudié le budget 2018 de l’Ontario, déposé en chambre le 28 mars 2018 par M. Charles Sousa, ministre des Finances de la province. « Alors que ce budget dresse la liste d’investissements importants grandement nécessaires, nous nous préoccupons du fait que le gouvernement sera déficitaire jusqu’en 2024-2025, surtout dans une période où l’économie se porte bien » a déclaré M. Alan Spacek, maire de Kapuskasing et président de la FMNO.

Mayor Alan Spacek of Kapuskasing and President of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) joined forces with other municipal and trade organizations to support the provincial government’s newly proposed regulation under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) for the forest sector. Spacek explained “As part of the 2012 Budget Bill, the Liberal government proposed amendments to the ESA that would allow them to implement the legislation in a more practical manner, and that would remove redundant and unnecessary process.

Some Ontario Liberal Leadership candidates have committed to reconsidering the Government’s policy on issues affecting northern Ontario as they seek to broaden their support prior to the leadership convention.
FONOM: Ontario Liberal Leadership candidates reject invitation to address Northern concerns
The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) is disappointed that the province’s Liberal leadership candidates will not attend a second debate in Northern Ontario. Such a debate could help to address crucial issues for the region – including the government’s decision to divest from Ontario Northern Transportation Commission (ONTC) – which were surprisingly overlooked in last week’s Thunder Bay debate.

À la Fédération des municipalités du Nord de l’Ontario (FMNO), on est heureux de la récente introduction d’une mesure de réforme de la législation électorale en vertu de laquelle on maintiendrait à 11 le nombre de circonscriptions dans le Nord de l’Ontario. On suit ainsi les recommandations du directeur général des élections voulant qu’on apporte des modifications aux limites des circonscriptions, ainsi que plusieurs autres changements, pour assurer une représentation équitable.
