FONOM President availble for interviews during 2019 AMO Conference

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) President Danny Whalen, will join about 2,000 participants at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s (AMO) 2019 Conference in Ottawa from August 18 to 21. For more than a century, Ontario’s largest municipal conference has brought together municipal, provincial and federal officials to work collectively to overcome municipal challenges and plan for the future.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities Board of Directors held its November 14, 2013 Board meeting in Little Current. President of FONOM, Alan Spacek, updated the Board on the current status of FONOM’s involvement with a number of key issues as well as projects to be undertaken moving into the New Year.

Northern Ontario municipalities are increasingly concerned about the lack of progress between environmental groups and the forestry sector in Northern Ontario, particularly as discussions elsewhere have led to agreements. The breakdown in talks has caused increased uncertainty for Ontario’s forestry sector, and the Province’s leadership is needed immediately to protect the viability of resource development in Ontario.
