To attend 2020 ROMA Conference
The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) will join more than 1,000 participants from across the province at the 2020 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto from January 19 to 21.
Coming mid-way through the provincial government’s current mandate, the conference focuses on the pressing challenges and emerging opportunities facing rural communities in Ontario. The Premier, as well as leaders of the NDP, Liberal and Green Party are scheduled to speak.
In addition to the conference program, municipal staff and officials will take part in municipal delegation meetings with provincial ministries to discuss local need and priorities.
Session topics include rural health care, including public health and paramedics, broadband expansion and affordable housing. There will also be sessions related to planning and economic development. Program information is available online at www.roma.on.ca. These province-wide matters have local implications for our community.
FONOM is is particularly interested in meeting with Ministers of the Ford Government to discuss increased support for Regional Economic Development; the Ontario Municipal partnership Fund (OMPF); a Seniors Education Tax Rebate Program; the continuation of Provincial Land Tax Reform; Broadband and Cellular Service; and the reinstatement ONTC Passenger Rail Service between Southern and Northern Ontario.
