FONOM Looks Forward to Minister Meetings at Annual AMO Conference

Date published: Tuesday, August 12, 2014

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) is preparing to meet with several key Ministries at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, August 17th-20th in London.

The annual conference brings together provincial and municipal elected officials and senior staff from across the province. The three day event provides an opportunity to attend information sessions on current emerging issues affecting the Province, off-site study tours, a Minister’s forum and a number of other scheduled events.

FONOM has received confirmation for one on one meetings from ten Ministries and will be discussing a number of important issues including the Ring of Fire, infrastructure funding, electricity rates, the Power Dam Special Payment Program, fishing licenses for seniors, and policing.

“The confirmation from several Ministries wanting to meet with FONOM demonstrates that the government recognizes the importance of the north,” says Al Spacek, President of FONOM and Mayor of Kapuskasing. “We look forward to meeting with Cabinet Ministers and senior staff to discuss key issues affecting northern Ontario.”
